Dessicated Liver: Superfood!

Liver is one of the most nutrient dense foods to include in your diet. Whether you follow a Paleo style eating plan or not, its a good idea to include it in your diet. In a recent podcast with Tetyana Obukhanych, she talks about the importance of getting liver in your diet to strengthen your immune system. She calls liver, “nature’s pharmacy”.

I don’t always like eating liver, however, and thankfully Dave Asprey, told me how you can simply take it in a pill form.

I’ve tried 2 brands, Uni-Liver available on Amazon, and Radiant Life. Both come from grass fed cows from Argentina. Radiant life says that nothing is added or taken away, they simply freeze dry the liver and put it in a capsule. Uni-Liver is somehow dried and pressed. I was concerned that some fat-soluble vitamins might be missing from the Uni-Liver since it goes through a defatting process. I emailed the company about my concern. This was the reply:

“Uni-Liver fat cholesterol are carefully extracted so that the vitamins remain intact”

Uni-Liver on Left, Radiant Life on Right

I feel more comfortable taking the Radiant Life version, knowing that there wasn’t anything taken away from the liver. The Radiant Life costs more, and I’m not sure if it’s worth the extra cost.

If you’re going to eat liver, it can have a pretty strong flavor. I’ve found one of the best ways to prepare it is with onions, bacon and veggies. I’ve bought grass-fed liver from US Wellness Meats and had it shipped to my door at a reasonable cost.
